How to find a Summer Uni Job

When it comes to student accommodation Melbourne universities have a large number of apartments and even halls, which stay full through the summer. This is a great city to enjoy and it is one of the reasons why many will look to stay at university during the summer months. Additionally there are many international students who come to Melbourne, and going home is too costly or not worthwhile, so they prefer to stay. It is common for students to use the end of term to look for seasonal work here for the summer, and here are the best to go about making sure that they get a position.

Social Media

One of the best platforms where you can find these kinds of summer roles is actually on social media, especially on Twitter and Facebook. Many local companies which are looking for support will post jobs on their pages. Additionally there are many pages which are dedicated towards the surrounding city, and they too will share job ideas and positions.

Going Old School

There are so many businesses close to Melbourne University accommodation which lose custom throughout the summer, when the students leave. Conversely however there are a great number of businesses which thrive during the summer months thanks to domestic tourism, and these are the businesses to target. Very often the best approach is to go old school and visit these businesses door-to-door offering services. Draw up a resume, print it out multiple times and head out to bars, restaurants, theme parks and other tourist draws to try and get a position.

 Speaking With The University

It is not always the case but there are many universities who will try to help their students with job positions. Speak with your professors and university staff to see if there is a job’s board where you will be able to check what is on offer for the summer months. Bear in mind that you may face stiff competition from other students with the same plans, so you will need to ensure that you are checking regularly and applying quickly when you do see a job.

Job Websites

Job websites are not just dedicated to finding careers and long term positions, they will also cater for the summer jobs market. The best way to secure a job is to cast your net wide and check multiple job sites so that you can pick up any positions there are. Companies will not post their openings on every single site, which is why it is going to be important that you invest time each day on checking them all.

A job for the summer will keep you busy, it will give you the chance to make some good money and most importantly it will give you a great chance to meet new people and make friends. Be sure that you start looking at least 6 weeks before the end of the school year to be in with the best chance of securing a position.
