HOW TO LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE FAST

Being equipped with more than one language is very beneficial in today’s world. Learning a new language is the most enriching experience in life. Whether you are learning that foreign language for fun or professional reasons, here are some tips for learning a new language fast.

Put yourself in a situation where the use of the language is inevitable.

One way to learning a new language fast is putting yourself in a situation where the use of the language is inevitable. Naturally, if you give yourself an option of using your new language skills or the language you are used to, high chances are, your brain will instinctively choose the language skills that you are used to, which are easier and requires less thought. Keep in mind that learning a new language requires a strong will. You must shift out of your comfort space and stay in a situation where the growth of the new language skills is inevitable.

Use the target language every time.

Many believe that the best way to learn a new language fast is by living in the country where its native speakers come from. However, there are other ways of learning a new language fast as long as you are determined. One of them is using the target language as much as you can. Stick to using the target language as your primary language, leaving you with no option but to master new phrases as quickly as possible. If you want to learn a language fast, force yourself into those situations where you have no choice but to use the target language.

Intensive immersion

Another excellent way to making fast progress in learning a new language is through intensive immersion. That means making every aspect of your life key part and parcel of your target language. That includes listening to news, music, and speaking in the new language. Intensive immersion forces your brain to think and respond in the target language. Normalize playing films in the target language as you listen and learn.

Focus on fluency than accuracy

Fluency refers to the ability to express yourself articulately and easily in a language. Accuracy refers to the ability to be precise and correct in a language. You can be fluent in a language but not have 100% accuracy. Again, you can be accurate in a language while not being anywhere near fluent. When learning a new language, the ultimate goal is to use it fluently before focusing on accuracy. Think of it this way, in your childhood, you did not follow the rules of your native language accurately when speaking, but people were able to understand what you mean.

Bring the new language home to you.

Even if you are not living abroad, there are still other ways to make a foreign language feel like home. For instance, switch your phone, cell language, or social media to the language you are learning. Other ways to bring a language home to you include joining a language group or finding a conversation partner.

The takeaway

Commit as many hours a day as you can to learn a new language. If you want to see rapid results, you must commit the required time in the process. That helps you gain the language’s foundational skills to build upon.
