India has many engineering colleges, a fact that is unsurprising since Engineering is one of the preferred career choices for most students. The country offers top notch training in engineering to both undergraduates and post graduates. The top engineering colleges are located not only in the four metropolitan cities, i.e. Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta and Madras but also in other smaller cities like Kanpur, Roorkee, Vellore, Allahabad, Kharagpur and Guwahati. The colleges are both government owned as well as private. What is remarkable is the quality education and uniformly high standards of these courses.

The admission procedure for the undergraduate courses is centralized. There is a examination that has to be given by all students aspiring to be engineers which is called the AIEEE (The all India Engineering Entrance Examination). In case a student aspires to join the Indian Institute of Technology or IIT, he has to sit for the JEE or Joint Entrance Examination. Both these scores are used to select students.

Though there are engineering colleges that have their own separate entrance examinations, these have, by and large been discontinued in preference to the AIEEE & JEE.

There are various streams within the engineering disciplines that students can pursue after their first year engineering like Biochemical, Electrical, Electronic, Computer, Civil, and even Aviation Engineering.

Things are never simple in this country. We live in an overpopulated country and even though there is a plethora of choices, we compete for the very best, be it kindergarten schooling, our school education or university education. Ranking means a lot to us, and we strive to be in the very best of institutes because our careers and the rest of our lives depend on it.

Keeping this in mind, lists are often compiled to show the top ten colleges in various streams of education. These lists are based on surveys conducted by reputed companies like India Today, Org Marg and also reputation earned by the colleges and their popularity.

If you say top ten colleges, these will have to be the leaders in different streams of education.

TOP TWO IN ARTS

ST STEPHEN’S, DELHI
Established: 1881 Seats: 350
Cut-off: Arts 75%, Eco 87%
Best Course: BA Eco (Hon)
New Delhi — 110 007

The last bastion in Oxbridge education, St. Stephens attracts the cream of students and faculty.

Mit College of insurance is one of the many institutes of Maharashtra Academy of Educational Research, Pune. It came to be due to collective efforts of many experts who were all committed to one cause that is to create and expand professional education facilities for training deserving young people whose ambition is to pursue higher studies.

The globalization impacts led to the opening of the college of insurance in MAEERs MIT – this was indeed the first one to offer a comprehensive one academic year course on Risk Insurance Management with effect September, 1999. This lend to formation of a department on Insurance that later changed to Mit College of Insurance – abbreviated as MITCI.

The institute was indeed lucky enough to get its training programs inaugurated by the chair of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority

Courses Offered
The courses offered include post graduate diplomas in Risk and Insurance Management, Fire Protection Engineering, Piping Design and Engineering and Energy Management and others. To drop an application, it can very well be done online by visiting the home of the website of the entire university

Training
Insurance sector remains one of the most dynamic sectors in the world today. The advent of the private players proved it all and created a lot of competition in the sector. The reason students are encouraged to pursue this sector is because in India alone the Insurance market is expected to grow to about Rs. 40,000 crotes per year in the non-life sector alone.

Such growth calls for trained personnel who will understand and deal with the target of the audience effectively; hence the need to encourage more and more students to enroll and get this customized learning based on scientific theories and insurance. Because of understanding the market, MIT joined with IRDA and came up with programs for the senior Insurance advisors across India, in the classroom and on the online mode.

The main objectives
The main objectives of MIT is offering consultancy in the insurance and how to manage risks; to promote, organize, educate and train on risk management; to train the rural youths on insurance as an accepted social responsibility; to carry out research in the field of insurance and risk management; to cater for the need of skilled manpower in the field of insurance and risk management and to promote though educating the general public on vocational courses on risk management and insurance.
