If you are traveling outside of Russia and you are a Russian citizen then you must get a passport. The Russian passport is the main ID for people in the Russian Federation. Normally, citizens get this when they turn 14 years old and it is given by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. This passport will need to be renewed at age 20 and at age 45. Any person older than 14, must have a valid passport.
The passport itself has the picture of the person. It also has their name, sex, birthplace and birthday. It may also have their address, military status, children, marriage and other information about them. It is written in the Russian language.
To use this passport to go to outside countries then a travel passport must be obtained. To be able to get this then it is much more detailed and difficult. There is a diplomatic passport, service passport, and seaman’s passport that is issued. So if you are not a diplomat, government employee or seaman then you may not be able to get one and leave the country. To be a normal citizen and obtain a travel passport then there are huge restrictions.
When you do obtain a travel passport then you are allowed to visit 81 countries. If you are in the Russian country you may be stopped at any time and asked for a Russian passport. This is a way for the government to make sure that there are no abuses and to help stop illegal immigration. It will also tell if a person is wanted for a crime. If you are caught without your passport the consequences can be severe. Anyone that has grown up in Russia already knows this and are diligent to keep their passport with them at all times. This is part of living in the Russian country under the Russian government. You must follow their rules. If you are from another country and are visiting then you will have to show them your passport from your country. This is extremely important- you must carry your passport on you at all times.
So far, holders of the ordinary Russian travel passport can visit 81 countries, either visa free or visa-on-entry. The reason for this is that the Russian government has agreements with these countries. It is a contract that the Russian government claims keeps the people much safer. If you decide that you are from Russia and would like to travel abroad- the first thing to do is to decide if the place that you want to travel to is accepted by the Russian government. This is important so you don’t waste money and time. Once you have determined where you want to go then proceed with obtaining a travel passport. Get all of the necessary documents together before you go to fill out your application. Once you do- be sure to be very honest on your application. If you follow these rules then you are well on your way to traveling outside of Russia.
