Nagpur University

After its establishment on 4th August, 1923 Nagpur University had six associated colleges and a total number of 927 students. Due to the expansion of subjects and curricula diversification, in the year 1947, the number of students raised up to 9000. This saw the increase in the sports and library facilities to meet the requirements of the University growing population needs. The University had had a variety of departments since its start. In the year 1958 Arts and social science faculties were opened. The increase in other departments meant shifting to more spacious structures in the main campus in the year 1972-73. Having been in the academic field for a period of seventy eight years, the university is currently offering management, fine Arts, physical education, mass communication, library science among others.

The University is currently accommodating thirty seven post graduates teaching departments, college of Education, 3 constituent colleges, and Laxminarayan institute of technology. It is also associated with four hundred and thirty nine colleges. With programs running under the above mentioned PGTD conducted by the associate colleges, buildings are diversified all over an area of estimated 327acres to accommodate this population.

All over the thirty seven departments, research programs are conducted and are prompted via PhD. Phil and post doc. Among this is the work shop which regulates training programs like Clay modeling, photography, carpentry, and electronics among others. The above are formal programs from which non-formal ones are added on which a local mode of education to cover needs is formed for local education. This will involve training and maintaining programs and extension activities via adult and consistent Education programs.

Globally, there is a real increase and expansion which goes along with the demand to accommodate and deliver to the needs of the population, therefore there is need to consider quantitative assurance techniques which will meet different proposals like e-learning and interconnectivity , rural backward development programmes, non teaching programmes, making the libraries firm, equipping the entire research and teaching infrastructure. This process will be able to cater for some if not all the upcoming demands from the learning population in the institution and many others.

The college is basically offering a variety of courses like; Faculty of science, Faculty of Home science, Faculty of commerce, Faculty of engineering and Technology, Faculty of Education and Faculty of law among others.
