This is a state university located in the state of West Bengal. The national council had set its parent institution called National council of Education in the year 1906 here. The first Jadavpur University Act in 1955 lead to conversion of the institution to a University which was after India got its independence. The University has been acclaimed a University of choice from different dimensions. It has portrayed the potential of excellence as declared by the Grant commission. The National assessment and accreditation council has also accredited the University a”five star”.
A variety of departments have polished the face on the University. Among these are; the innovative research and training programmes by the faculty of Engineering has maintained excellence, the reputation of the University as a major centre as a leader of research and interdisciplinary inventing teaching programmes has been achieved from the science faculty of accounts.
The department of special assistance and centre of advanced study has its head up as a result of faculty of Arts. These include comparative literature, English and philosophy. The department enjoys its own strengths like being the only Film study offer, inter-disciplinary and research.

The University offers courses like; population education and Extension, Acupuncture, Computer Aided draftsmanship, printing and Binding, Maintenance and servicing of TV and Basic Techniques in Topography among others.
