These 3 routes are available only to residents in the state.

1) Applications made by Passport Express:
Applicants using the Passport Express Service are guaranteed that their passports will be issued within 10 working days, provided that the application form has been properly completed and all necessary documentation is included.
2) Applications made by regular post:
One should only apply by regular post if one does not require his/her passport for at least 4-6 weeks.
Passport application forms are available from all Garda stations and from Post Offices which provide the Passport Express service. The completed application form should be sent to either address below. Applicants in Munster should post to Cork while applicants in the rest of Ireland should post to Dublin.

3) Applications made in person:
The Passport Offices in Dublin and Cork are open from 9.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. These Offices normally provide a 10 day issuing service. However, if one finds that he/she has left his/her application late and requires a passport in less than 10 days, he/she must apply in person to the Dublin or Cork Office. In such cases it is important that his/her application is correct and that he/she brings proof of travel, eg internet booking or travel tickets. Depending on the urgency an additional Urgent Processing fee may be payable.
Application routes for foreigners:
In general one should allow 4 weeks for the processing of one’s passport via his/her local Mission. This includes the transmission of one’s application by email to the Dublin Passport Office where the passport is printed and the return of the passport to the Mission concerned by the diplomatic bag service.
The opening hours of Irish Diplomatic and Consular Missions vary from country to country depending on local practice. One should telephone in advance if one wishes to call an Irish Mission to obtain a passport.
Documents required:
1) The application form correctly and legibly filled. The signature must be carefully put in the signature box on the left hand side of this section.
2) Two (2) recently taken passport photographs.
3) The witness section of the application form and one photograph should be signed by a Garda Síochána for applications made in Ireland, or by a member of one of the categories listed on the form for applications made abroad.
4) Proof of Citizenship. Photocopies are not acceptable.
5) The appropriate fees should be provided.
Proof of citizenship:
1) Birth Certificate with full name of applicant and parents if born in Ireland.
2) Birth Certificate of the applicant’s parents and the birth certificate of applicant should be submitted if the applicant was not born in Ireland but the applicant’s parents were born in Ireland.
Fees:
For the issue of a Standard passport, valid for ten years = €80 (Age: 18-64)
For the issue of a Large passport, valid for ten years = €110 (For frequent travellers)
For the issue of a passport to children under 3 years of age, valid for three years = €16
For the issue of a passport to children aged 3 to 17 years of age, valid for five years = €26.50
For the issue of a passport to persons aged 65 and over, valid for ten years = Free
