Indian Institute of Material Management

The Indian Institute of Material Management is situated in Pune. Material is really scarce in this universe. To utilize and allocate the scarce material properly is the real art of managing a successful business. The Institute is almost twenty five years old. The material is Governed by the Internatinal Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management.

The body represents 42 countries in all having spread over six continents. The Institution was founded in the year of 1975 by merging three institutions The National Association of Material Management, The Materials Management Association of India and the Material Management Association of Hyderabad. A number of courses are offered by the institute. Graduate Diploma in Material Management, this course is recognized by the ministry oh HRD. It is a 2 year or 3 year correspondence course, or also can be done in a part time basis from the campus the duration being chosen by the candidate. A diploma engineer can apply for the course. Post Graduate Diploma in Material Management, it is approved by AICTE.

The candidates should have a bachelors degree or GDMM with at least 50 % marks and a minimum of two years of work experience. The course is of 3 years of duration. The course is of a correspondence mode. Post Graduate Diploma in Logistics Management, this is also a correspondence course of a duration of just one year. For this course also the applying candidate is needed to have a graduation degree or a GDMM and with at least an aggregate of 50 % marks and with a minimum of two years of work experience. Certified Purchasing Manager, this is a programme of the Institute of Supply Chain Management in the US.

The requirement for this course is an engineering degree with a minimum of 3 year of experience or any other graduation degree or GDMM with 5 years of work experience or a diploma with 8 years of experience. The course is of six months duration and is of corresponding mode. There are other courses in DRSCM, MBA in material management and Post Graduate Diploma in Supply Chain Management.
