To visit the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, you will have to go to Powai which is in the state of Maharashtra. In the category of Indian Institutes of Technology, it was second to be established. It was established in the year 1958. It is pertinent to mention that this institute was created with the assistance of UNESCO along with the funds provided by Soviet Union. Actually, UNESCO helped in terms of equipment that was taken from Soviet Union. However, the costs related to building and other such like things was managed by the Indian Government. Because of all these efforts, IIT Bombay came into being. The main aim of this institute was to enlighten people by giving them some up-to-date education in the fields of engineering and technology. It certainly is acquiring all of its aims and objectives.
IIT BombayThis second oldest campus of India covers an overall area of 550 acres. This area was provided by the Bombay State Government. The campus is located between the Vihar and Powai Lakes. It has a gate in this side which is known as the Lake Side Gate. Apart from this gate, there are three other main entrances. They are known as Main Gate, Middle Gate and Y-Gate. Among all these gates, Main Gate remains open for 24 hours whereas the Middle Gate is closed considering the security threats. Environment of the campus is nothing less than elegant. Along with lakes, you can also find Sanjay Gandhi National Park which is not too far from the campus. All these things combine to make it a perfect place to relax while studying.

For accommodation purpose, there are 13 hostels which are numbered through 1 to 13. It is essential to mention here that Hostel 10 and Hostel 11 are for women. Hostel 10 is both for undergraduate and postgraduate students, whereas, Hostel 11 is reserved for postgraduate female students. Along with hostels which are adorned with all essential facilities, there are some other things as well. For instance, you can find a swimming pool in the campus which is nothing less than a luxury to have. However, if that’s not enough for you, then you can find hockey, football and cricket grounds to spend some quality time. Courts for tennis, basketball, squash and volley ball are also available within the campus. Besides participating in sporting activities, you can also participate in lots of other cultural events that institute organizes on regular basis. It certainly is a great place to study as it doesn’t only offer a great learning experience, but, it provides you an opportunity to experience the exciting lifestyle.

You must endeavor to get a place in this institute as this will certainly be a great thing for your career. You must decide about the program that you want to go with. In this regard, you can go with Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering. Apart from these programs, there are other programs in other disciplines as well that can be chosen by you. So, if you have an aptitude for research activities, then there is no better place than to go with IIT Bombay.
