The entry to the Chartered Accountancy course is through the lowest level or the first level test called as the Common Proficiency Test or CPT which is to be completed by the students to get started with the professional course. Followed by this the students previously could start with their Articleship program but as per the new rules students have to clear the Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) once they clear the CPT to start their Articleship training. The CPT is made up of four distinct subjects divided into two sessions.
- Session I – (Two Sections – Two Hours – 100 Marks)
- Section A : Fundamentals of Accounting (60 Marks)
- Section B : Mercantile Laws (40 Marks)
- Session II – (Two Sections – Two Hours – 100 Marks)
- Section C : General Economics (50 Marks)
- Section D : Quantitative Aptitude (50 Marks)
As per ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants, India) the candidates will be declared as passed if they obtain a minimum of 50% marks. This is a multiple choice questions based exam, hence its recommended to go through all the options and read as much information prior to the exam on the respective subjects. The study material offered by the Chapter is most important course book to go through for the exam and the additional books should be read if you have got extra time because main focus should be on the study material only.
