Agra University

Agra UniversityThe Agra University as it is known today, had its foundation Dr B.R. Ambedkar University laid on 1st July, 1927. This was after an agitated effort of Rev. Canon A .W. Davis, Dr.L.P. Mathur, Lala Dewan Chand, and many others who were enthusiastic educationists.

The Agra University legal power attained its extension over United provinces of Agra Rajputana and Central India. This was accompanied by fourteen associated colleges with a total of 2530 students among which 1475 of the students were owned by United provinces. At the beginning the University had only a number of modules ranging from; Fine Arts (1982) Management, Basic Sciences (1981), Home science (1980), Agriculture (1938), and Medicine (1936) along with this modules, others were added afterwards like the university residential wings which include; Institute of social sciences, Institute of Home science, Institute of Basic sciences, K.M Institute of Hindi & linguistics among others.

During the period amounting seventy five years, Agra University strove to keep high standards of character which has influenced the academic institution to pursue, excel and attain consistency by channeling knowledge promotion, research and social personal conduct. The university has always aimed at sharpening and polishing its curriculum and building an intellectual community by adopting rich traditions and respect. The University has also extended to northern India where it has delivered higher education. This process has seen its success in linking ethical and moral values hence becoming the University of Choice.

In 1996, the University was renamed Dr. B.R. Amdedkar University. This university is of late catering for seven districts of Agra where it has been able to deliver their educational needs. These districts are Aligarh, Hathras, Etah, Firozabad, Mathura Mainupuri and Agra. At the current state, the university has an estimated figure of 200 associated colleges among them Sarojini Naindu Medical college which the company posses as a pride owing to the fact that the college is one of the oldest premier medical institutes. The university also has 15 residential institutes that are dispersed out in the four residential campuses viz namely; Khandari Campus, Civil Lines Campus, Paliwal Campus, and Chhaleshar Campus. Moreover the university associated colleges of Homeopathy extend all through to the state of U.P.

The university is adhering to the drive of its motto “Tamso Ma Jyotirgamay” which stands for moving from darkness to light. This has seen them working tirelessly to become the best educational centre nationally as well as internationally. It is also becoming so much innovative to become the best scientific vocational, research innovations as well as job oriented.
